The Ashby Canal restoration has continued north from the Moira Furnace, and the canal now terminates at the Bath Yard Basin, immediately outside Conkers Waterside, passing through a new lock on its way from the Furnace. The canal was officially opened by the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council in November 2001. The Moira Furnace Museum Trust run regular boat trips to and from Conkers Waterside in the season, (tel 01283 224667 for details). Moira Canal Festival, 15th & 16th May 2004 - a bicentenary celebration The main event site is at Moira Furnace, with activities incorporating the length of the canal between the canal basin at CONKERS Waterside and Donisthorpe Miner's Welfare. Attractions include boats of all varieties, live steam, music, family entertainment, historic re-enactments, vintage engines, trade and craft stalls. New activities for 2004 include canal dipping, canalside minibeast safaris, bird and wildlife walks with the CONKERS educational rangers. For further information please contact:
