National Urban Forestry Unit To find out more about the Unit and its work, please visit us at www.nufu.org.uk British Trust Conservation Volunteers BTCV's work in the National Forest reflects our work nationwide. Firstly we offer Midweek Practical Conservation Projects to groups of volunteers. BTCV work on a range of sites within the entire National Forest. Projects are led by trained leaders who themselves are often full time volunteers. The kind of work can include hedgelaying, dry stone-walling, fencing, tree-felling, coppicing, tree-planting, building footpaths, steps, stiles and boardwalks, waymarking, pond creation and so on. BTCV run Training Courses. Learning is an important part of every BTCV activity. Within the National Forest we run training courses instructing in traditional crafts such as hedgelaying, dry stone-walling, hurdle-making, willow weaving, coppicing and greenwood crafts. The Trust helps people to enjoy and learn about wildlife through practical conservation sessions, reserve open days, member's newsletters, meetings and events such as the British Birdwatching Fair. The Trust works closely with a network of local groups and other organisations including the Leicestershire Badger and Bat Groups, local authorities, BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) and the Leicestershire Biodiversity Action Plan project.
