National Forest Art Gallery - Recycled 'Country Living' - June A nostalgic look back at simpler times with a strong emphasis towards the country theme, pervades throughout the June exhibition, brought to us by young textile designer Roberta Cliff. A necessity to find cheap fabrics, trimmings and buttons whilst a student has carried through Roberta's work as she still prefers to source old and vintage textiles and findings from charity shops and individual donors. "If anyone reading this has a pile of old sheets, curtains, tablecloths, clothing or anything with interesting patterns which they no longer want, I would love to 'give them a new lease of life', in the artworks and crafted pieces that I enjoy creating". Roberta says of her work "My particular inspiration coming from the old style Country Living, vintage and antique household and leisure items, which containing so much character, almost tell a story. I aim to source, re-use and recycle as many different textiles as possible, therefore printing onto a variety of plain and patterned fabrics. Once my images are printed I then appliqué and embellish each image using a variety of the recycled fabrics, along with machine and hand embroidery as well as a selection of vintage buttons." Having completed her degree in textile design at the University of Derby, Roberta is now undertaking children's workshops and hoping to expand her range of works and clientele base. This promises to offer a refreshing new dimension to the style of exhibitions previously displayed and we look forward to offering even more adventurous themes at the National Forest Art Gallery. The exhibition (which can be viewed for free admission upon registration at Reception, along with entrance to the 'Trading Post Gift Shop' & 'Olive Tree' restaurant) is open to the public from Wednesday 3rd June until Sunday 28th June, from 10.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate textiles or findings to Roberta may phone on
