Conker Counting with Pudsey Bear

Conker Counting with Pudsey BearTue 17 Nov 2009

It’s that time of year again, when we see our favourite giant yellow bear popping up nationwide at all the fundraising events for the ‘Children in Need’ charity.

Event organisers in the attractive village of Kirkby Bellars, were pleased to welcome Pudsey to their village hall for the annual fundraising event, where there were plentiful activities on offer to raise funds for this years national target.

Raffles, face painting and a scrumptious array of cakes were just some of the attractions that accompanied the unusual stand, where visitors were challenged to guess the amount of conkers that were packed within the jar. Villagers had diligently collected and then dried enough conkers to fill the large jar, in the weeks preceding the fundraising event.

The prize for the winning guesstimate was a year’s family membership pass, donated by the award winning family visitor attraction, Conkers Discovery Centre, situated in the heart of the National Forest. This was awarded to Mr.Stephen Sears, a resident of the village who came nearest to guessing the total figure of 706 conkers!
