Remember, remember the 7th November! This is the date for fantastic fireworks at Conkers!
On Saturday 7th November, Ashby Rotary Club will be presenting its fabulous annual fireworks show at Conkers for the 8th year running, and all proceeds from it will go to local charities. The Club has been organising its event for more than 20 years; previously at Staunton Harold and Calke Abbey and in those years, well over £100,000 has been given to local charities.
Fireworks night at Conkers is an evening full of entertainment for the whole family and a safe environment to see the best and most thrilling fireworks: you can just stand back, watch and enjoy the mirage of colour in the November sky!
If previous years are a guide, then the Club expects 5000 or so people to attend, making it one of the largest displays in the Midlands and possibly one of the biggest charity fireworks events in the country.
Rotarian Roy Anderson, Chairman of the Fireworks Planning Committee says: ‘We expect his year’s event will be the biggest and best ever. Ashby Rotary Club donates the money raised to local charities and in the seven years we’ve been at Conkers, over £70,000 has been donated to charity. That’s a huge amount of money and we are enormously grateful to Conkers for providing such a great facility and for their help in the forward planning. But an event like this would not be successful without all of the volunteers from the three Ashby Rotary Clubs and those from other organizations such as Netherseal Young Farmers and Ashby Inner Wheel.’
‘We must not forget our sponsors either. Their generosity enables us to get the show moving each year and we are very grateful to them. This year we have more than ever: Sedgwick Igoe & Associates, KP Snacks, Bloor Homes, Andrew Bridgen of AB Produce, Richmond Cavendish Printers, UK Coal and Ashby Life.’
There is much more than a fireworks show on this evening: there will also be music, a funfair, BBQs and other food outlets, face painting, divas disco, tombola and sparklers for everyone to enjoy.
Doors open at 5pm, with the event starting at 6.30 pm, so make sure to get there early! Parking is FREE!
