The recent warm weather and flower shoots are clear signs that spring is fast approaching! Many of our aquatic birds are pairing up and can be seen out and about feeding around the lakes. It is a fantastic time of year as nature comes back to life meaning that we can look forward to longer days, re-growth and lots of new arrivals.
Over the past few weeks I have been busy with school programmes, guiding children around the woods, looking for wildlife and teaching them new skills. I think they particularly enjoyed learning about food chains and getting muddy as part of our ‘Mud Monsters’ programme as well as discovering where to find minibeasts. We then made some paper kites and the children decorated them so that they had something to take home as a memory of their visit to Conkers. The warm weather has also meant that more people are trying the Barefoot Walk which features an array of materials such as mud, water, pebbles, boulders, sand and coal. It is a unique way of experiencing the outdoors and heightening your senses!
The Easter holidays are soon on their way, we have lots of exciting ranger-led activities, crafts and entertainment lined up to ensure you have a fun fulfilled visit. Just don’t forget to bring some lunch for the birds!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
